Rachel Karanian '08 Named Holy Child's Varsity Soccer Coach

Rachel Karanian is the new head varsity soccer coach at Connelly School of the Holy Child, Potomac MD. Rachel is a Holy Child alum (08’) and 2012 graduate from Loyola University Maryland with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Language Pathology.  Rachel worked in the MCPS system prior to obtaining a Masters of Science in Nutrition and Integrative Health. She joined the HC faculty in Fall 2019 as a licensed nutritionist, certified nutrition specialist, and certified yoga teacher.  Rachel believes the opportunity to combine the many components of her education and experience into a dynamic classroom setting where she once sat in the same chairs is a true gift.

Karanian brings an extensive background and knowledge of the game to Holy Child.  She was a three-sport varsity athlete (soccer, swimming, and track), captained all three teams including ALL-ISL, ALL-GAZETTE, and ALL-MET honors during her HS soccer career as one of the leading scorers in Montgomery County. She went on to play soccer at the D1 collegiate level. She was assistant Varsity Soccer coach at HC in 2019 season and a competitive swim coach for several years working with 5-18 year olds.

Karanian looks forward to continuing her work with the girls whether in the classroom or on the field. She hopes her lifelong passion for the game together with her belief in healthy competition based on true team comradery will build on the rich tradition of student-athlete successes at HC. Over the past year she has come to realize that being called  “Coach” by the students at Holy Child is an experience she will cherish as she gives back to the HC community that has given her so much.
