Music

Music Foundations aims to provide each student with the opportunity to have artistic experiences through exploration of various musical genres.  Students discover the musical elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, form, expression, and styles with a focus on ukulele, guitar, and keyboard skills. Through listening and applied study, students learn how to identify characteristics of music from different time periods and genres. 

Students have the opportunity to explore and develop vocal harmonies, sing solos, master vocal technique, try songwriting, and sing in a variety of genres (jazz, pop, world, folk, classical, etc.) Music theory/history, piano skills, and music production/technology are discussed and practiced.  Performance opportunities include: Fall Recital, Christmas in the Chapel, open-mics, masses, school assemblies, US Musical, Evening of the Arts, Baccalaureate Mass, and additional events.  Members attend all Chorus rehearsals during elective.  Vocalists can enroll with teacher recommendation and/or successful entrance audition.    

Instrumental Ensemble provides an advanced study of music through the performance of instrumental music in a chamber and ensemble setting. Through the study of various musical works, students will be able to understand different characteristics of all stylistic periods. Students perform in the fall recital, musical theatre productions, dance concert, Mass, and other special events throughout the year. Instrumentalists can enroll with teacher recommendation and/or successful entrance audition.    

Chorus is an exciting ensemble open to students with a desire to sing and learn, grades 9-12.  Students build community through singing together, develop vocal tone and technique, and explore a wide variety of artists and genres (classical, pop, jazz, world, folk, etc.) Songwriting, music theory, and basic piano skills are introduced.  Performance opportunities include masses, open-mics, Christmas concerts, and Evening of the Arts.
