Our most prestigious merit scholarship recognizes outstanding academic excellence and character. 

To be considered, please submit each of the following: 

• An essay (no more than 500 words) that answers the question: "What about Holy Child’s philosophy of education do you appreciate and how does it fit with who you are as a student?" Please cite your work if necessary. 

• A creative video that is no longer than two minutes that expresses who you are, what you value most, and what goals you have set for yourself. 

• A reference letter from a coach, mentor, instructor - someone who knows you well and works with you outside of school. Someone who can attest to your outstanding work ethic and character, and is able to cite specifically why your candidacy for this scholarship should be considered.

The Society of the Holy Child Jesus and the Holy Child Network of Schools’s motto is “Actions Not Words”, inspired by Cornelia Connelly.  Members of this community are encouraged to live their faith through actions, to speak the message of the Gospel. 

At Holy Child, we value the dignity and uniqueness of each person and live lives of service to others, especially vulnerable community members.  We empower our students to serve their community faithfully. This scholarship is awarded to students who are already modeling virtues of justice, peace, compassion, mercy, and generosity – in their homes, communities of faith, school communities, and in the world.   

To be considered, please submit each of the following: 

• Choose one: Create a video about how you serve. Consider photos from various projects, as well as narration, and music. Be creative! OR write a reflection about how you serve and why service matters to you. 

• A reference letter from an individual who has witnessed your commitment to service and is able to cite specifically why your candidacy for this scholarship should be considered. (This reference should be someone other than the candidate’s parent.)

This award is given to the daughter, granddaughter, niece, or sister of a current Holy Child student or graduate of the network of Holy Child schools. 

To be considered, please submit each of the following: 

• An essay (no more than 500 words) explaining the different facets of Cornelia Connelly’s life that resonate with you the most, how you would joyously approach your education at Holy Child, take full advantage of the opportunities available to you, how Holy Child will help set you on the path to realizing your personal goals, and why continuing your family's legacy is important to you. 

• A reference letter from a Holy Child alumna should be sent directly to the Admissions Office. The letter may be written by a graduate of any of the Holy Child schools within the Society of Holy Child Jesus Network. However, the letter may not be written by the parent of the applicant. The letter of reference should speak to the students' character and academic and co-curricular interests. It should demonstrate why the student will take full advantage of the opportunities available to her at Connelly School of the Holy Child in Potomac, MD. 

Any new students (including Middle School applicants) are eligible to apply for the Alumnae Legacy Scholarship.

The scholarship committee typically looks for artistic potential, dedication to craft, creative thinking, and alignment with the school's artistic program values

The following should be submitted for consideration:

Artwork Samples (4-6 pieces)

• Include a variety of media (drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, photography, etc.) No more than one digital art piece and no more than one photography piece may be submitted.
• At least one piece should include observational drawings from life.
• One of your submissions may include visual journal pages showcasing preliminary sketches and development of ideas.
• Student artists are expected to demonstrate honesty and ethical responsibility in all creative work. While the internet provides vast resources for inspiration and reference materials, simply copying or tracing images found online does not constitute original artistic expression. When using internet imagery as reference, you must transform and interpret the source material through your own creative vision, technique, and personal artistic voice. Direct copying, tracing without significant transformation, or presenting someone else's work as your own constitutes plagiarism and violates artistic integrity.
• Provide multiple angles for 3D pieces

Artist Statement (250-500 words)

• Describe your artistic interests and influences
• Explain your creative process
• Discuss what art means to you personally
• Share your goals for continued artistic development
• Please include any extracurricular activities related to art and any art-related awards or recognition

Interview Component

• Portfolio review with art faculty
• Discussion of artistic interests and goals

Technical Specifications

• Digital submissions in JPEG or PDF format
• Minimum 300 DPI resolution for image files
• Clearly label all pieces with title, medium, dimensions, and date

In person auditions will be held from mid January- early February. Please notify admissions@holychild.org by Dec 4^th that you are interested in applying for the Performing Arts Scholarship and to schedule your audition.

The scholarship committee typically looks for artistic potential, dedication to craft, ability to perform in an ensemble (if applicable), and alignment with the school's performing arts program values.

Audition Requirements by Discipline 

Vocal and Instrumental Music Performance (2 pieces)

• Two contrasting pieces (at least one must be classical or jazz style)
• Include variety in style, tempo, and emotional content
• At least one piece should demonstrate technical proficiency appropriate to your level

Theatre/Acting Performance Portfolio (2 pieces)

• Two contrasting monologues: one classical (Shakespeare, Chekhov, etc.) and one contemporary
• At least one piece should be from published theatrical literature
• One selection may showcase improvisation skills
• Include variety in genre (drama, comedy, musical theatre)

Dance Performance Portfolio (2 pieces)

• Two contrasting choreographed solos in different styles
• At least one piece must be in classical ballet or established technique (jazz, contemporary, etc.)
• Include variety in tempo, mood, and technical demands
• One piece should demonstrate technical proficiency in your primary style
