Fine Arts Department
The Fine and Performing Arts are a vital part of a Holy Child education. Students are encouraged to explore their creativity through music, drama, and the visual arts.

The arts are showcased each spring in a special series of presentations;  April is our designated ARTS month, with gallery showings, dance recitals, and musical performances each week.

In the visual arts, instruction begins with overviews in the Middle School. In the Upper School, although Holy Child students are required to take two years of art offerings, many of them elect to take more. It is the department's hope that the experiences students have here will encourage them to make the arts a part of their lives, both in career and recreational choices. Many students have discovered a hitherto unknown talent or developed an existing one while taking classes in the Fine and Performing Arts at Holy Child.

Students had been nominated by the department to participate in The Maryland Distinguished Scholar in the Arts Program and All-State music competitions; in recent years, several have been recognized for their accomplishments (five this past year).

The art department had four students recognized at the 2010 Congressional Art Show held at the Strathmore Performing Arts Center, including the top prize winner, Alicia Vidal, whose self-portrait hung in the Capitol building for a year.  In 2011 Meagan Glynn's artwork "Repetition with Variations" was selected for the show and subsequently sold.
