The girls are working hard on completing their first quarter/trimester work, and fitting in pumpkin carving along the way for the contest on Monday. The weekend holds fun and good deeds--Friday's "Fright Night" Upper School mixer and Saturday's Best Buddies Halloween party, one of their most festive nights of the year.

| BEST BUDDIES HALLOWEEN PARTY | | | | | | Come one, come all to the annual BEST BUDDIES HALLOWEEN PARTY, this coming Saturday, October 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p,.m. in the gym. (This, as for many decades, is held in conjunction with PCR, Potomac Community Resources.) Many student volunteers are needed and welcome--members of the Best Buddies club or not--and we ask that you arrive at 4:00 p.m. or thereafter to help decorate. Come in fun costume, and help our "buddies" with crafts, dancing, and just having a rollicking good time. Questions? Write to Jean Plummer, jplummer@holychild.org. | | | |
| Father-Daughter Service Project: WMSG | | | | | | Make a huge difference in the life of a young girl with our fall service project. We will be assisting the Washington Middle School for Girls in getting their expanded space ready and help with moving. This is our first Fathers Club service project and one that will have a visible impact on WMSG. You and your daughters will also be impressed at how the school provides a Catholic education in a safe, caring environment for at-risk girls in an underserved urban area. We are using a new sign-up site, www.SignUpGenius.com/go/wmsg; you can register for times there.
Phase I: SATURDAY, November 5 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. See details and Phase II under Read More.
Email Tom Serena if you have any questions, and/or if you can provide a truck for November 5 ( tomserena@yahoo.com).

| BOOK CLUB SELECTIONS | | | | | | Another rousing book club discussion was enjoyed by an even larger contingent at the last meeting. Now get ready for our next with two selections from our leader, Meg Mayo.
Mothers and Daughters by Rae Meadows (suggested by new freshman mom Maureen Martin),
and "because I feel the need to add a classic; you know I have been dying to do this": Emma by Jane Austen (my all-time favorite author!)
Happy reading, and we will meet either in early December or after the holidays; we'll let you know when we clear a date.
| DID YOU MISS IT? | | | | | | We will use this space to point you to articles of interest that faculty and staff have come across in local and national media. The articles will also be posted on the Parents Resources section of the website.
The July/August issue of The Atlantic had a fascinating piece about how too attentive parenting may not be the best choice!
