Summer Science Opportunity
As we progress through the year, the Science Department will keep you updated on different opportunities that are available to students over the summer vacation. Some of these are internships (paid and unpaid) while others are tuition-based courses and camps in the area.

National Aquarium at Baltimore Student Volunteer Opportunity for High School Students
Do you think your daughter would like to learn more about marine biology and spend the summer teaching others about marine organisms? The National Aquarium at Baltimore offers an internship where students volunteer as exhibit guides in the galleries of the Aquarium while educating visitors of the importance of these organisms and their conservation. In addition to improving your daughter’s knowledge, she can also gain work experience, acquire self-confidence, and make new friends from all over Maryland. This volunteer opportunity may even lead to more exciting internships in the future. Criteria: Interested students must have completed Biology by the end of this school year. If your daughter is interested, please ask her to stop by the Science Department Office for more information. She will have to complete an Interest Form and return it, along with a parent signature, to the Science Office by November 30. If you have any questions, please contact your daughter’s science teacher or call the Manager of Volunteer Programs at the Aquarium, Leslie Landman, at 410-576-1015.

Father-Daughter Service: December 10
Make a huge difference in the life of a young girl with our fall service project. We will be assisting the Washington Middle School for Girls in getting their expanded space ready and help with moving. This is our first Fathers Club service project and one that will have a visible impact on WMSG. You and your daughters will also be impressed at how the school provides a Catholic education in a safe, caring environment for at-risk girls in an underserved urban area. We are using a new sign-up website,
www.SignUpGenius.com; you can register for times by clicking here. Our second session will be held SATURDAY, December 10 from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.
Father-Daughter Communion Breakfast
Fathers and daughters--if you weren't here for our annual Sunday morning tradition, you missed a good one. Fr. Bill Gurnee, although a last-minute replacement, delivered a touching homily about the connections of fathers and daughters and what days such as this mean in the lives of our girls. Equally inspiring were the words of 1992 graduate Meghan Rogers, who shared the lessons she still uses from Holy Child and how they have equipped her to overcome major life challenges and succeed in her professional and personal life. Mark your calendars now for next year!
ATHLETICS

ALUMNAE NOTES
It's no surprise to us that our students are excelling once they leave our hallowed halls. Here are a few fun notes of what's happening in post-Holy Child land:

Emily Trees ('08), playing field hockey for Washington College, made the All-Conference team in the Centennial Conference, one of four from her team. In addition, Emily, a senior attack player, was one of two to make the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll. Trees, an All-Centennial Conference second-team selection a year ago, led the Shorewomen in points (26), assists (8), and shots (79) while starting all 18 games this season. She also tied for second on the team in goals with nine. Through the conclusion of the Centennial Conference Tournament, Trees shared the Centennial Conference lead in assists, ranked fifth in the conference in shots, was tied for eighth in points, and was tied for 10th in goals. The Washington College field hockey team finished the 2011 season with a 10-8 record and qualified for the five-team Centennial Conference Tournament for the third time in four years.

Kelly Whelan ('10), playing goalie at Rhodes College, made the national field hockey team, and will be representing the US when they play in Prague next year.
