Eighth Grade Parents – Mark your calendars! This year’s trip to Echo Hill Outdoor School will take place March 26-30. This is an essential part of the eighth grade science curriculum and all eighth grade students are expected to attend. Echo Hill, located in Worton, Maryland, is a nature camp overlooking the Chesapeake Bay. For five exhilarating days, the girls will learn about science and ecology, history and the human environment, themselves and each other. Echo Hill provides positive experiences in the outdoors that are exciting, interesting and fun. The outdoor classes help the girls explore the colors, sounds, and smells of the Chesapeake Bay and supplement the eighth grade science curriculum. | | | |
| RESULTS | | | | | | BASKETBALL
VARSITY "brought home the gold" with the championship trophy in the Stanly Martin Homes Magruder holiday tournament. After a strong win over Richard Montgomery on Tuesday, the 27th (Colby Evans had 21 points, 9 rebounds and Daniela Falcone 17 points 6 rebounds), they kept their winning ways against a pesky Holton squad to take the tournament title by a score of 57-50. Holy Child was led by Colby Evans with 16 points 11 rebounds, Daniela Falcone with 11 points 10 rebounds, Talley Britt with 14 points (10-10 from the free throw line), and Eileen Williams with 11 points and 6 assists. Caroline O'Donnell added 5 points and 2 rebounds.
The JV team made their first appearance in the tournament, expanded this year to include the younger girls; they beat Magruder soundly on day one, 40-18 (Sophia Abshire had 12 points), but fell in their championship game to a tough Blair team 37-27, led by Jessica Johnston with 12 points.
[Here's an update on an early December show.] Sunday, December 4 was a great day for the JV equestrian team. Rose Meima took the grand champion ribbon in the novice division, including first place over fences. The division included more than twenty young men and women from as many schools in the region, so we are particularly proud of Rose's victory. JV team captain Hope Thomas won first place in the maiden division, while Mackenzie Myers earned two thirds and Lizzy Cornfeld brought home two greens and a fifth over fences, all in a very competitive division of more than thirty riders. Holy Child continues on track to win the trophy for the year's high points. Thank you to these riders for representing their school with good sportsmanship and incredible ability. Go Riding Tigers!
